NIST and CMMC: Their Relationship and Distinctions

 

The NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) is not directly a part of the CMMC (Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification) program. Instead, NIST compliance and NIST risk assessment frameworks serve as foundational best practices that influence and inform the requirements incorporated into CMMC.
